About Us

The School of Gender Studies at Mahatma Gandhi University envisions a dynamic university environment where Gender Studies serves as a focal point for transformative education. The primary objective is to establish an academic setting that is both inclusive and critical, with the Master of Arts in Gender Studies positioned as a flagship program. This distinctive initiative endeavors to seamlessly integrate rigorous theoretical explorations on Gender with practical and impactful feminist practices. The overarching goal is to provide future change makers with a comprehensive educational experience engaging them in the analysis of interdisciplinary texts to effect significant changes in theory, policy and practice. The program delves into the epistemological, conceptual, legal and empirical dimensions of gendered inequalities and power dynamics. By challenging conventional teaching methods, the course structure combines gender-centric core courses with diverse foundational elements and innovative electives, extending invitations to contributors from varied institutional contexts globally. With a dedicated focus on research methods, the objective is to enable students to carve out distinctive pathways and perspectives on gender, fostering critical understanding, inclusive teaching methods, interdisciplinary approaches and contributions that catalyze transformation in feminist and queer movements.
