Dr Anukriti Gupta

Dr. Anukriti Gupta is a gender studies scholar and researcher specialising in gender and religion,
religious space, spatial politics, and visual culture. She is currently serving as Assistant Professor at
the School of Gender Studies, Mahatma Gandhi University.

Dr. Gupta holds a Ph.D. in Women’s Studies from Jawaharlal Nehru University. Her doctoral
research, titled “Law, Bodies, Piety: A Study of Women and Religious Space in India,” critically
examines the intersections of women’s rights, religious space, law, and contemporary politics in
India, with a particular focus on Hindu nationalism.
She has an extensive academic background in gender studies, having completed her M.Phil. and
Ph.D. in Women’s Studies from Jawaharlal Nehru University, an M.A. in Gender Studies from
Ambedkar University Delhi, and a B.A. (Honours) in English from Lady Shri Ram College,
University of Delhi.

At Mahatma Gandhi University, Dr. Gupta teaches courses such as Introduction to Feminist Theory,
Indian Feminist Thought, Gender and Religion, Gender, Cinema and Visual Culture, and Gender
and Spaces. She has also offered an online seminar course titled “Gender, Religion and Space,”
which attracted wide participation from academics across universities in India. In addition to her
academic teaching and research, Dr. Gupta has worked as a Gender Audit Consultant at EMEA
College of Arts and Science, University of Calicut, contributing to institutional gender sensitisation
and policy-oriented academic interventions.

Dr. Gupta has presented her research at several national and international conferences and has
contributed scholarly articles and book chapters to the field of gender studies. She is a member of
leading academic associations, including the British Association for South Asian Studies (BASAS)
and the Indian Association for Women’s Studies (IAWS). Her work contributes to contemporary
feminist scholarship by foregrounding the politics of space, embodiment, and religion in South
Asia.
