The National Symposium on Human Rights Day, conducted on December 11, 2023, from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm, offered a profound exploration of systematic and institutional oppression through the lens of human rights. The symposium was a joint academic venture of the School of Gender Studies and the Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension. The event featured a distinguished panel of speakers, each shedding light on distinct but equally pressing issues. Dr. Shubhalakshmi P provided insights into the intersection of WTO Dispute Settlement and Human Rights. Adsa Fatima, Acting Director of Sama Resource Group for Women and Health, New Delhi, focused on challenging gender normative and making rights work. Dr. Girish K C discussed safe drinking water as a fundamental human right. Dr. Gireesh Kumar J emphasized inclusivity as a basic human right. Anjana Satheesh, a Research Scholar at the National University of Advanced Legal Studies, addressed the struggle for equality among sexual minorities. Lastly, Nirmal S Varghese, a Research Scholar pursuing a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Studies at Amrita University, Haryana, explored the issue of menstrual poverty in India. The symposium proved to be an insightful and comprehensive examination of human rights challenges across various domains.
